We had a wonderful last day with the students we have been helping at the Cap D’Or school throughout the year.
Last week, at the end of the school year farewell, they presented us with beautiful cards signed by all the students and with photos from The International Women’s Day Drawing Competition Awards Ceremony
The students reminisced about all the activities we had all participated in during the year
One of the highlights of the year was the classroom renditions of The Twelve Days of Christmas. We had created artwork featuring the numbers and lyrics in both English and Spanish. By far the most enthusiastic line was “Five Gold Rings,” which they sang with great gusto! In fact, they loved the song so much that we all sang it together again
We were also shown the various areas within the school where Lions funding has helped provide new equipment, particularly for the infant classes. Seeing the children racing around on the tricycles was tremendous fun, while watching others so seriously engaged in the sturdy outdoor wooden kitchens installed in the play area was equally delightful. Several young “chefs” proudly offered us bowls of imaginary soup, and it was wonderful to see the concentration and imagination on their faces as they prepared and compared their culinary creations.
We were also shown the lovely new Astroturf corner area, where the children can sit comfortably to play, read, or simply chat together. It is a fantastic addition to the school and one that is already being greatly enjoyed.
At the end of this wonderful farewell, each of the 80 students gave us an individual hug. It is difficult to describe the joy those hugs brought. As we walked through the playground and out of the school, it felt as though we were walking on a carpet of happiness.
It is experiences like these, and the opportunity to integrate with students in the local school, that make being a Lion such an important and rewarding part of our lives.
