On Wednesday, 13th July, at a brief presentation ceremony within Espai La Senieta, Moraira, T.M. Lions President, David Platt, flanked by a number of the members of Teulada Moraira Lions Club, had the pleasant task of formally handing over to the Alcalde of Teulada-Moraira (and honorary Lion), Carlos Linares and the Acting Coordinator of Protección Civil, Victor Giner, a new state of the art portable defibrillator unit (6897.00 euros) and specialised evacuation chair (937.75 euros) to upgrade the equipment in one of the local ambulances. A new ambulance bed (1928.74 euros) is also on order and will go into service as soon as it arrives. In expressing his gratitude, on behalf of the Protección Civil for the donation of these items, Alcalde Carlos Linares spoke warmly of the contribution which Teulada Moraira Lions have, through the years, made to the local community and of his hope that this would continue well into the future.

Just a few days after the presentation, T.M. Lions Treasurer, Nico Dekkers, was able to confirm that, during the 12 month period to 30th June 2016 (the end of the Club’s financial year), total donations made by T.M. Lions to our various charitable and local community projects had, for the first time, broached the 30,000.00 euro mark whilst, in addition, separate provision has been made to help fund a number of new projects currently “in the pipeline”. This increase in the T.M. Lions welfare budget is due, in no small part, to the increasingly important contribution made by the Club’s fund-raising shop, The Lions Den (located just a couple of doors along from Letters R Us, beneath the Pepe La Sal supermarket in the Centro Comercial, Moraira, just past the fountain roundabout on Ctra Moraira-Teulada) and the superb group of wonderful volunteers who give of their time to staff The Den and whose hard work has made it such a success. This success does, however, bring with it the challenge of constantly replacing existing stock as it is sold and so if anyone out there has any good quality clothing, (non-electrical) household items etc which may be surplus to requirements and which they would be willing to donate to The Lions Den then please do contact The Den’s General Manager, Ken Langridge (tel.: 966 492 037), who will be delighted to hear from you.
