Teulada-Moraira Lions Christmas

The Teulada – Moraira Lions Get into the Christmas Spirit

Two lovely “Lions” events took place in the run up to Christmas, the first being the magnificent Prize Draw held at the Lions Den shop in Moraira on Thursday the 21st December where Lions, Den volunteers and expectant ticket holders assembled for an exciting Prize Draw of 12 raffle prizes. The assembled throng were treated to mince pies and cava as a prelude to the draw and Lion President, Brian Clarke, thanked all those who had generously participated before pulling out the numbers of the prize winning tickets.  Unfortunately, no actual prize winners were in attendance but the lucky recipients will be contacted with the happy news. (Winning ticket numbers can be found on the TM Lions website www.tmlions.com)  The Prize Draw proved to be a great success with over 400 euros being raised for the charity and thanks must go to our generous sponsors who donated prizes.

The second event took place at the Santa Maria Magdalena school in Benitachell on Friday the 22nd of December where the Teulada–Moraira Lions presented diplomas and gift certificates to the winners of each class for excellence in handwriting skills. This event has become known as the Claude Kelly memorial handwriting competition in memory of one of the clubs founder members, Claude Kelly, and happily his widow, Marianne, was once again pleased to participate and hand out the prizes.  A very excited crowd of children were “corralled” in the school gym and the Lions and teachers alike were thrilled by the enthusiasm and level of penmanship displayed by the youngsters.  Rapturous applause accompanied each prize winner and once again it proved a very worthwhile event going by the delight of all involved, and, by helping to foster a skill that is fading in the electronic age, the Lions are very pleased to be part of the learning process for young people.
