What a Cracker VI – Sunday, 9th December 2018

A full house at La Senieta were treated to a varied programme of carols and music after first of all being offered mulled wine, mince pies, shortbread and assorted biscuits in the vestibule. There was also the opportunity of  purchasing tickets for the Lion’s Den Christmas raffle which were being sold by volunteers from the shop. Pepe la Sal donated Chocolate Santas which were given to all the children attending and Father Christmas was spotted walking amongst all the concert goers.
The concert started off with a selection of carols sung by The Lady Elizabeth School Choir and featuring some excellent soloists. Then came the Salvation Army Timbrels from Alicante who gave a magnificent exhibition of their skills with the tambourine to a rousing brass band march. To finish the first half the English Choir sang a variety of better known carols some of which the audience were invited to join in with when the words were projected onto the screen at the back of the stage.
More refreshments prepared the audience for the second half of the concert  which commenced with Barry Peters giving renditions of more modern carols with a bit of swing. The Salvation Army Band came onto the stage and were introduced by MC Brian Clarke, the band was made up of a contingent from Madrid who had come especially for the concert and members of Denia Salvation Army together with local musician Dick Crooks on saxophone and Lion Philip Butterworth on cornet. They accompanied the audience in several favourite carols and the timbrels came on to do another routine halfway through the session. The concert ended with Dave Peachey singing and playing his guitar.
Brian thanked Blevin Franks for sponsoring the event,  the audience for their support and wished everyone a very happy Christmas.
