The Lions Tartan Tipple

The 25th of January was another highlight in the T.M. Lions social calendar. Lions and friends wearing tartan gathered to celebrate Burns night with all the traditional pomp and ceremony that the Scottish Bard deserves!

The plump haggis carried reverently on a silver platter was paraded to the musical accompaniment of a lone Piper then toasted by all with a “wee dram” of finest single malt!

Following the customary address to the Scottish delicacy and the Selkirk grace diners enjoyed a tasty British roast courtesy of Monroe’s Restaurant.

Just to show we can be an erudite bunch, Janet treated us to some little known facts about “Our Rabbie”.

Armed with song sheets, raucous singing and dancing ensued and some adventurous revellers even attempted the Highland fling or was it the Funky Chicken?

So much fun was had that we agreed to posthumously award Robert Burns Esquire honorary membership of our club!

Sincere thanks to Social secretary Susie Butterworth and her capable team Janet Dane, Carol and Keith Barclay for organising such a memorable Celtic evening.

Look out for next year’s event as Philip Butterworth has threatened to wear an orange wig and tartan kilt!

C U Jimmy!
