SPEECH AS AN HONORARY MEMBER of Teulada-Moraira Lions Club

by Mayor of Benitachell, Miguel Angel Garcia

16th July 2019

Distinguished authorities from Lions Club, special guests, dear friends; I would like to start my speech expressing my feeling of gratitude towards Lions Club, represented by its president, Nico Dekkers. It is an honour for me to have the opportunity to meet with people whose most important ambition is to look out for, the most vulnerable people in our town like guardian angels. They are women and men with the brave face of revolution, people who fight for justice and humanity. They are an example. A pride for all of us. Their energy, passion and dedication is undoubtedly an inspiration.

I might not get it fully right expressing the great honour and deep appreciation that I feel towards those who have sponsored and approved the distinction in naming me an honorary member, as well as everyone who kindly attends this event. This nomination as an Honorary Member lets me become part of the most important humanitarian group in the region on an international level: Lions Club. An association that has been in an altruist collaboration with El Poble Nou de Benitatxell for seven years now. From the very first day they have thrown themselves into their neighbours, working closely with the Social Service councillor, and always taking care of the town’s necessities. I am aware of their achievements, always priceless. I wish, on all the local corporation’s behalf and all the neighbours from El Poble Nou de Benitatxell, express our gratitude for the collaboration and cooperation that you have had with humanitarian initiatives during all these years, among those we would like to mention Social Services donations, collaboration with the free school books, food vouchers with families in need, active participation in Christmas’ campaigns, ensuring that each and every family could celebrate it with delight. The donation to Civil Protection and Local Police in latest technology for reanimation of patients was the key to save lives. I can say it out loud that El Poble Nou de Benitatxell is a cardioprotected town thanks to you. You are essential, a key part in our town and from El Poble Nou de Benitatxell’s Town hall we are at your disposal in whatever is in our hands to help you to keep helping others.

I honestly believe that, together, hand by hand, we will be able to keep advancing with delight, we can coordinate efforts to give the best humanitarian and efficient response. We can start new projects and action protocols. We want Lions to be leading the recently created Humanitarian Table and join all the benefactor association to create a wonderful force of altruism and generosity.

Words, ideas, but especially, humanitarian gestures, can change the world. Generosity, empathy, love, beauty are the things that dignify and keeps us alive. You are humanitarian men and women because you are from the human race, and the human race is full of passion. Let’s keep dreaming. You are one of the best things that has happened to El Poble Nou de Benitatxell. And of course we need you like the first day. Thank you so very much, Lions Club.
